Across the Pond

Arrived in London bright and early at 7am on Tuesday.  Our flight from Dulles was pretty empty and lucky for us we each got a three seat row to ourselves.  I squeezed in a 3 hour nap so I was ready to hit the streets of London for some sightseeing.  We decided since we were here for 3 weeks that we would give ourselves some more space so we moved into an apartment in the Mayfair neighborhood.  A perfect location on the west side of the city center and next to Hyde Park! I have been to London before but it was 15 years ago so I am excited to see more of the city and visit places I missed the last time.  We also have visitors coming the last weekend so that will be a lot of fun touring around one last time.

We booked through a rental company called Maykenbel.  They own a hotel as well as two apartment buildings.  Overall we are satisfied with our accommodations and the staff have been helpful with any of our requests.
Outside entrance to our place.  Nicely located by Prezzo, an Italian restaurant chain but actually very good and reasonably priced considering our neighborhood is in the high rent district.
Nice kitchen but I don't think I will be doing any cooking when we have tons of wonderful restaurants out our front door!

As you can imagine there are pubs on almost every block.  Some of the pubs in our neighborhood that we are enjoying!

We really lucked out with the great weather our first week.  The first place we headed, Parliament Square and Westminster area.
 Parliament Square
Abe outside the Supreme Court building
 Westminster Abbey
 The Abbey's western facade.
St. Margaret's Church, located between Westminster Abbey and the House of Parliament.
 Methodist Central Hall Westminster
Big Ben with the London Eye peering in the background
 House of Parliament
 London Aquarium and London Eye
One of the newer attractions is the EDF Energy London Eye.  A giant Ferris wheel and tallest in Europe.  The wheel has 32 sealed and air-conditioned capsules and it takes 30 minutes to go entirely around.

It was a busy first week and I really got to see a lot of the city.  In just a few days it will be St. Patrick's Day weekend and we have some fun stuff planned!
