Belvedere Quarter

The Belvedere Garden and Palaces are stunning! Belvedere means ' a place from which to see beauty'. You enter through a gated archway into this decorative garden with tiered fountains, trimmed hedges, sculptures and two massive palaces on each end. It is referred to as the Upper and Lower Belvedere.

This is actually Karlskirche (St. Charles Church) at Karlsplatz which is right before you enter into Belvedere Gardens.
Upper Belvedere Palace is the biggest of the two. Something I read that was interesting is the domed copper roofs at each end resemble the shape of Turkish tents - an illusion to Prince Eugene's victories over the Turks. Inside the Palace there is a Chapel and art gallery museum.

View heading down to Lower Belvedere.
Lots of statutes of sphinxes with their lion bodies and human heads. This sphinx represents strength and intelligence.
